“Cast all your anxiety
on him because he cares for you. Do not be
anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians
4:6-7
Hurting
now? You may be discouraged or
troubled this morning with things that are not falling into place as you
thought they would. Today, one more time, give it all to the Lord. Lay your
worries, your concerns, at His feet today. The hymn we often sing in Church, “What
a Friend we have in Jesus,” admonishes us to take it to the Lord in prayer, and
it promises that with all of our needs, He is aware of them, and He will supply
our every need and more. We do not need to fight our battles alone! He is
always there for His children. Joy comes! We need to watch for it as we give
our all to our Father, knowing He takes care of each need. Expect our loving
Father to answer our every need. Keep on keeping on coming to the Lord, even
though the pathway looks dismal. Don’t ever give up! Keep on keeping on praying,
keep on keeping on seeking, keep on keeping on trusting. Meditate on the
promises of God, keep on keeping on singing hymns, talk to God, listen
carefully to hear what God is saying to you. Weeping (heartache) comes to all
of us, but so does Joy! God promises the answer, renewed hope, and Joy. Trust
Him today. God never leaves you nor forsakes His own. He is by your side right
at this very moment.
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes on you.” Acts 1:8 1.
If you were to tell me, “I never get
discouraged!” I would come back to you
and tell you, “You are not living in the real world!” We all have times of discouragement. Watching the local news causes everyone to be
discouraged, and this seems to be their ulterior motive. Even the so-called “comedian” is out to get
you discouraged instead of making you laugh.
Maybe you are at a crisis in your life, the loss of a loved one, the
loss of a job, financial problems, diagnosed with a serious illness, a car
accident, or just plain getting older like me.
If so, don’t allow discouragement to take control of your life. Listen to what Jesus has to say to us today,
“I AM CALLING YOU to a life of constant communion with Me. Basic training includes learning to live
above your circumstances, even while interacting on the tattered plane of
life. You yearn for a simplified
lifestyle so that your communication with Me can be uninterrupted. But I challenge you to relinquish the fantasy
of an uncluttered world. Accept each day
just as it comes, and find Me in the midst of it all.
“Talk with Me about every aspect of your day, including your
feelings. Remember that your ultimate
goal is not to control or fix anything around you; it is to keep communing with
Me. A successful day is one in which you
have stayed in touch with Me, even if many things remain undone at the end of
the day. Do not let your to-do list
(written or mental) become an idol directing your life. Instead, ask My Spirit to guide you, moment
by moment. He will keep you close to Me.”2.
There was a man amid a flood. The
floodwaters are rising. A man in a Jeep
came along and asked the man to get in, but the man refuses, saying, “no. I believe God will save me.” The floodwaters can hire, and the man goes to
the top of the roof to escape getting swept away. Along comes another person, a boat, and tells
him to get in. He answers, “I believe
God will save me.” The floodwaters get
higher and higher, and a helicopter comes along and wants to pick him up, but
he hollers, no, I believe God will save me.”
He
drowns and meets God in heaven. He
asked, “why didn’t you answer my prayer to save me?”
God
answers, “I sent a Jeep, a boat, and a helicopter to save you, but you refused
My perfect will.”
We
laugh in the story, but in actuality: Some people think it is like a box of
cracker jacks. Only once in a while do
we get a prize. Most of the time, we get
a handful of ordinary stuff.
Some people think the will of God is like a bag of marbles. It is something He can pull out… Shine up…
Show off… And use in a game to win some more marbles.
Some people think the will of God is like Santa’s bag. It is full of candy and toys, but He only
comes once a year, two good little boys and girls, because He knows who is
naughty and nice.
Some people think the will of God is a 911 emergency number to use in
case of fire or other emergencies.
Other people think the will of God is a red telephone and the
president’s desk to be used as a last resort.
No,
no, no, my friends; the fact is that doing the will of God is only the thing
that counts. “Don’t let the world
influence you, but go to the Bible, which will change your thinking, so you’ll
want to do the will of God, which is good and appropriate and perfect (Romans
12:2, Lindy’s translation).
So
when you pray, “Thy will be done”? You
are not asking God to do his will or change his will, and do not ask God to
bless your will. You’re asking God to
help you find and do His will in your life.
You are praying, help me find Your plan, help me to understand Your plan,
help me to submit to Your plan, and help me to accomplish Your plan.3
