God
is good all the time; all the time, God is good! Amen?
Ah, Lord God, Thou Hast Made
The Heavens
And The Earth By Thy Great Power;
Ah, Lord God, Thou Hast Made The Heavens
And The Earth By Thine Outstretched Arm.
Nothing Is Too Difficult For
Thee,
Nothing Is Too Difficult For Thee;
Oh, Great And Mighty God,
Great In Power And Mighty In Deed,
Nothing, Nothing, Absolutely Nothing,
Nothing Is Too Difficult For Thee.
When I sing this song, I have a little prayer that goes through
my mind: Dear God, please let me live close to You, so I don’t make it
difficult for you to love me; I love You because You first loved me!
I go to a church that has the best pastor, and being a Wesleyan
Baptist now, I still call out AMEN when he makes a good point. One day, however, I got quiet, and he asked
me why. I told him, you stopped
preaching. You started to meddle. As he
was preaching, he walked in front of the podium, and pointed right at me, and
said, “You’re not growing in grace!”
“GROW UP!”
Well, I came home and got out my Bible, sang the above song, and
read Romans
12:9-19.
Love
from the center of who you are; don’t fake it.
Run for dear life from evil; hold on for dear life for good. Be good friends who love deeply; practice
playing second fiddle.
Don’t burn out; keep yourself fueled and
aflame. Be alert service of the Master
cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard
times; pray all the harder. Help needy
Christians; be inventive in hospitality.
Bless your enemies; no cursing under your
breath. Laugh with your happy friends
when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the
great somebody.
Don’t hit back; discover beauty in
everyone. If you got it in you, get
along with everybody. Don’t insist on
getting even; that’s not for you to do.
“I’ll do the judging,” says God.
“I’ll take care of it.”
Then I Googled about sociable weaver birds
that live in the Kalahari Desert in Africa.
They build nests large enough to house hundreds of birds on trees and
other tall objects. The nest is used as a
shelter from the heat by day and the desert’s frigid temperatures by night.
The sociable weavers are hospitable and
good hosts. They share their food and
know how to work as a team, such as mending the nest when it shows signs of
deterioration. They even allow a variety
of other birds to live in their colonies. In this diverse setting, they live together in
peace and harmony.
When I finished reading this interesting
article, I concluded that the sociable weavers’ behavior is worthy of imitation
within our families, churches, and communities.
This lesson from nature is also the lesson from today’s reading. Paul reminds us that God calls us to love one
another, to maintain our spiritual fervor, and to practice hospitality towards
one another.
PRAYER:
Dear God, I don’t know how to be a sociable weaver bird. You said you would meet our needs and help us
to be like Jesus. So, I am asking you
today to show me how to be a sociable bird and love my enemies (the Communist
Democrats). You are a great big wonderful
God and worthy of all of our PRAISE!
